Brad Story

I am a native of Essex, Massachusetts and a seventh-generation boat builder. I have an art degree from Kenyon College and have sculpted and modeled all my life, including building over 50 boats—all made of wood combined with various composite materials—during my 30-year shipyard career.

In 2000, I decided to devote myself exclusively to sculpture. My years shaping beautiful boats, my delight in observing planes and learning how they are built and fly, and my eye for neighborhood birds all come together in my lightweight wood and fiberglass sculptures incorporating aerodynamic and hydrodynamic shapes and structures such as boats, birds, planes, insects, fish, and plants. Most of my sculptures are suspended, a handful are standing.
